1 down, 25 more to go...

This week I finally managed to do one of the animals from the animal A-Z I'm attempting to do. It's a Toucan!
I drew it roughly into Photoshop first and then using paths drew out the different areas and filled them with block colour. I don't really like using gradients on my images but the only other way to add the shading to the beak would be to use a lot of different layers of colour and I didn't want the image to be too detailed, so I felt the gradient worked well...

I had originally planned to create all the animals in different media but I think now I might continue to create them all in Photoshop in the same style so that when they are all completed I can tile them all in one image.

This morning I made pancakes for breakfast! with the help of my assistant of course! I think we've finally managed to crack it; light fluffy pancakes which aren't burned on the outside and stodgy in the middle... we added a generous amount of cinnamon too so they were DE-LIC-IOUS!

Pancake Perfection...

  1. I like it, the lines are really nice and its a lovely pallette. I would maybe crop the bottom a little, or put some kind of non distracting bg element, like a leaf as theres alot of negative space. But thats probably just me being anal again.

    Those pancakes look scrummy too

  2. Hey Lee!
Think I posted the wrong version cause I cropped it square but doesn't appear to be square at all! will have to re-upload the correct one.
That'll get rid of some of the negative space.
I wanted the background blank like the woodland animals I did a while back... that way it wouldnt look too fussy when i tile them all then I'm finished, but without anything to stand on he just looked weird so i tried to add the minimum amount of detail to the bg so that he wasn't just floating about, that's why I didn't put any detail on the branch either.
I might make it jst a slightly darker shade of the background colour so it doesn't stand out as much.

  4. I was going to do a Fox for "F" but have already done a fox in this style so it might be cheating. Really need to get back on track with this!
